Meet Liberatha Kawamala From Tanzania: The Young Eco-warrior
Who is Ms. Liberatha Kawamala?
I am a young lady eco-warrior and founder of Libe Green Innovation, a social enterprise business that is focused on elevating young voices in conservation. Raised in rural Tanzania, I strive to not only raise conservation education awareness within my country but also to extend my work on a global scale.
What was your reaction when you learnt that you had been listed as one of the Top 100?
It was exciting news being named as one of the Top 100 Young African Conservation Leaders and it has renewed my zeal and energy knowing that the small interventions and milestones that we have achieved as young people are not being overlooked.
How did you start your organization?
I started Libe Green Innovation back in 2018, by bringing together local community members to participate in environmental programs. The organization started as a Community-Based Organization that which dealt with various environmental activities revolving around Our conservation awareness. We have successfully created job opportunities and empowered numerous young conservationists who have gone ahead to become entrepreneurs selling recyclable waste to our factory.
What have you learnt by being a young leader in the conservation space?
Having strategic partnerships is key to success in the conservation space. As a company, we consistently search for stronger collaborative opportunities that will not only support our activities but will also scale up the initiatives of those we have empowered within the community. It is always encouraging to keep uplifting younger generations and I am looking forward to learning additional innovative skills that I can pass down to them from the leadership program. Working with youths gives us more energy to keep training new innovations and come with different ideas to sustain our business.
Any encouraging words for the next generation of young leaders?
As an environmental conservationist, I encourage everyone in the conservation field to keep up the good work. Sometimes, it can be a bit disheartening but it is important not to despair. More importantly, we cannot protect the environment unless we empower and inform others sensitizing them that they should protect the resources as they stand to be the primary beneficiaries. We can’t tire or give up; we owe it to the present and future generations of all species to rise up and walk.
