She undertook the first (and only) investigation of the ecological viability of marine ponds created by diamond-mining activities. Her MSc project was funded by Namdeb Diamond Corporation, where Liezl has been employed since 2012, and took place within one of their largest licensing areas (4075 km²) called Southern Coastal Mines (SCM), located in south-western Namibia.
